Our review

Small and charming, this may well turn into a comfort book for your child. It has some of the main characters in Peter Rabbit's stories and is a good introduction to Peter Rabbit's world and pop-up books.

It is easy to carry around, be it in a pram or handbag. However, you may want to let your child read this under your supervision, lest he tears the pop-ups out of curiousity.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Beatrix Potter. Published by Penguin Group. ISBN: 9780723257936. Age 3-5 years. 22 pages. 152mm X 158mm (5.9in X 6.2in). Board book. 2007.

Description

Once upon a time there were four little rabbits, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail and Peter. They live with their mother under the root of a big tree.

The children were going out to play. Mrs. Rabbit warned them not to go to Mr. McGregor's garden. Guess what? That was exactly where Peter went. Peter helped himself to the vegetables there. Upon turning a corner, he bumped into Mr. McGregor!

Peter ran and ran! Soon, he lost his shoes. Next, he left his jacket behind. At last, he managed to shake off Mr. McGregor. But by then, he was very lost. Would Peter be able to find his way home?

(Based on the original and authorised editiion)

Our review

Peter Rabbit will appeal to children. This is because rabbits depict cuteness, cosiness, and gentleness. In addition, Peter is a naughty rabbit, pretty much how most children behave.

Although he has stolen Mr. McGregor's vegetable, but your child would be rooting for him in his escape. Your child would see him as the small and vulnerable one here, especially when the opponent is a man many times bigger than Peter. Even the sparrows helped Peter out of a net.

Thankfully, all was not well with Peter. He had got to learn his lesson, hadn't he? When he reached home, he felt sick and tired. So, he had to go to bed immediately while his three obedient sisters had delicious black berries for supper.

For each animal, actions to go along with the song are shown. Be prepared to chase your tail, wriggle your bottom and gallop around!

Our review

Old MacDonald is one of the most lively children's song. The touch-and-feel features provides added excitement. You could also mention the colours of the animals such as black, white, red, brown and grey.

Have fun singing and following the actions. This would help with your child's movement and coordination. And if you want more after you come to the end of the book, you could add others such as a frog ('reebeep', hop), duck ('quack', waddle), turkey ('krrrrr', sashay), pig ('oink', shuffle), and snake ('hissss', slither).
